User Experience (UI/UX)

Process Implementation

Before your team can begin taking advantage of the benefits of great UX, you must have a UX team and process that works. Many groups we have worked with do not have UX leadership within the team and thus do not know how to implement a UX team and process. If you want to improve the UX and Product Design for your SaaS, we can get your team set up for success.

Reduce Churn, Increase Sales, Take Your Product To The Next Level

So often, very robust products have poor UX. That’s because these products were first to market and started in an age of the internet when UX wasn’t a priority.

Unfortunately, these companies are facing stiff competition in today’s market with new products being developed faster than ever and serious competitors are rising in industries that were formally dominated by a handful of incumbents.

Here is the solution in a few broad steps:

  • Hire UX or Product Designers who are capable of handling your robust products
  • Implement effective front-end development to bring new UX to life
  • Put in place a system of regularly querying your customers and creating an interdisciplinary team of designers, developers, product owners, and leadership to build a customer and team focused roadmap.
  • Train your product owners, existing developers, and leadership on the value of UX and how it should be implemented.
  • Create a roadmap to slowly deploy new UX over time to give your users the time they need to retrain.
  • Measure results and compete at a higher level.

Only once your team has been reworked and retrained can you begin to take advantage of all aspects of new system of understanding your customers and better delivering what they want and need.

Our Approach To Implementing UX Processes Within An Existing Team

Teams that build platform-level enterprise software and SaaS applications have often been working together for decades. These teams have often been using the same or similar processes for much of that time. After years of experience in this area, our team believes strongly in focusing on educating senior management and then working directly with DevOps leadership to help train existing team members while simultaneously bringing in talent to improve existing systems. This process of bringing everyone forward together means that existing team members can be skilled up while introducing new team members.

From our experience, development teams are very open to these changes and most often embrace changes quickly.

Design Process Implementation Deliverables

Team Analysis

We begin by interviewing the existing team to understand their capabilities, understanding of UX, and ability to assimilate into a new process. Team members who we suspect will have more difficulties will be noted for additional training. We believe that all team members, no matter their experience or disposition, can be taught the value of UX and how to be a part of a productive team that has a robust UX process.

UX Process Implementation Plan

Once we understand the team, goals, and systems, we produce a thorough report with recommended education, an implementation plan, and expected timelines. The plan will be presented to stakeholder leadership as the proposed process to implement the UX process.

Sourcing & Hiring

In most situations, new hires will be required in UX, Product Design, Product Ownership, and/or front-end development. Once we’ve established and agreed upon the scope of these new additions, the JHMG team will source and hire these roles for your organization.

Skilling Up Leadership & Team Members

Very often developers, product owners, and sometimes leadership need to be skilled up or sent to training on design thinking, front-end development, and UX design. As a part of our plan, we will work together to make sure that your team is skilled up in the appropriate areas.

Customer Design Meetings

Regular design meetings will be set up with an interdisciplinary team of product designers, product owners, developers, leadership, and customers to ensure the team fully understands and continues to understand customer needs. This is a critical part of building the right product for your customers.

Design Roadmap Integration

Once the team has an understanding of their new capabilities, UX goals will be integrated at the top level of the product team, and a new overall product roadmap will be assembled which will now include UX-related goals and milestones that impact retention, reputation, and sales.

These deliverables underscore an ongoing refinement process, ensuring that the final UX/UI designs are visually appealing, user-friendly, and align with users’ needs and the product’s strategic objectives.
