SEO Overload: When It Becomes Too Much

As with anything in life, you need to find a good balance. Everyone wants their Website to be the first result in a search. So how do we do this? We use search engine optimization (SEO). But how much is too much? Is too much SEO bad? What will happen?

When it comes to keywords, linking, meta tag data, or any other SEO tactic, there is a limit to how much you should do. Most people will agree that there is an optimal level of SEO. However, everyone has a different opinion as to what that level is. Every situation is different, but there are some guidelines you should follow when it comes to SEO.

  • Keyword OverloadOne of the most important points made about SEO and keyword density is to not overdo it. The use of keywords in your content should flow naturally. It shouldn’t be obvious that you’re trying to cram as many keywords into your text as possible. Doing this will not only turn off your readers, but it will turn off search engines to your content as well. Search engine spiders are smart. They can tell when you’re trying to trick them and they will kick you out of the system.

Keywords are very important when it comes to SEO. Just make sure you don’t become too ambitious with this or else you won’t be able to reap any benefits.

  • Linking OverloadIn SEO, it is important to build links on other pages that not only link to your site, but to link out to other sites as well. This gives your Website more visibility in other places. It also builds traffic to your page when other people are able to find a link to your site from somewhere else. Placing links within your text to other parts of your Website also helps readers find pages that may not have been indexed by search engines.

Again, be careful with your links. Within your text, links should be present, but they should not turn the entire paragraph into underlined, blue font. This is very displeasing to the reader’s eye and will most likely turn them off to the content.

When it comes to placing your links on outside sources, be sure those are relevant pages. Search engines thrive on relevancy, as do search engine users. If your site has nothing to do with another page’s content, then it probably won’t do you much good to place your link there. Also, try to link to credible sources. This will make you look better in the eyes of a searcher. Don’t place a link just to place it. Link with purpose.

  • Meta Tag Data Overload Meta tags provide vital information for search engines and for searchers themselves. Your meta tag descriptions need to be informative and succinct. It is also a great place for keywords. But again, do not overdo it. Too many keywords in your meta tags may kick you out of the search engines.

This description may also be the one that pops up underneath your link in search engine results. If your meta tag is loaded with keywords, your searchers really won’t get much, if anything, out of your description.

  • A Little ReviewBefore your being your SEO journey, make sure you take all of these warning into account. Everyone wants to do the best job they can do to increase their company’s visibility in such a vast, online market. But, overdoing it may cost you. Do you want all of your hard work to go to waste? Of course not. So, be smart. Don’t take advantage of these SEO strategies.
