Amazing App Helps You Learn More about Your Facebook Activity and Friends!

Wolfram Alpha has created an app to find out data about your Facebook account that you never knew before! Wolfram Alpha is an online service that answers factual queries directly by computing the answer from structured data, rather than providing a list of documents or web pages that might contain the answer as a search engine might. The company rolled out this new analytics tool that uses its data with your Facebook account to tell you interesting information that you didn’t know before. Once you give it access to your profile, it provides a visual report based on your activity and people you know.

This app tells you information about your posts such as the most common word you use in Facebook posts, which posts received the most likes or comments, how many pictures and posts you’ve posted in the last year, and plenty more! It will also tell you on which day of the week you were born. So cool!

Using data visualization, this app color codes your friends based on how you know them such as from high school, college, or work. Delving deeper, it groups your friends into categories; social insiders, social outsiders, social connectors, social neighbors and social gateways.

Wolfram Alpha says social insiders are the people in which you have the most mutual friends. This could be a childhood friend, spouse, or family member in which you share the most friends with. On the other hand, social outsiders are described as the people whom you share little to no friends with. This could be someone you met randomly at a bar or networking event. Social gateways, on the other hand, are people that know many people outside of your network. Social neighbors are friends that have very few friends outside of your network. Lastly, social connectors are the friends that connect a cluster of friends.

Wolfram Alpha is definitely one of the coolest things I’ve come across recently and I thought I’d share it with you!

Some of the surprising things I found out after giving this app access to my Facebook profile:

  • I’ve received 1290 likes on items I’ve posted in the past year
  • My average post length is 11.08 words
  • My most distant friend is in Chiang Mai, Thailand
  • I know more people named “Nick” than anyone else

Also, this is my word cloud (most common words used in my posts):
