Members First Credit Union

We rebuilt the Members First Credit Union (MFCU) website, refreshing the branding, transitioning from ExpressionEngine to WordPress, and providing training to the client.

Like most of our clients, we have built a long-term partnership with MFCU. This iteration on the MFCU digital presence is the latest in a series on which we have collaborated over the years.

What Problems Does
MFCU Site Rebuild Solve?

MFCU’s website was built with ExpressionEngine in 2010. With a website rebuild based on WordPress and served via an up to date hosting solution, the client could feel confident in the site’s security and reliability. The MembersFirst team is now also able to create new content much more easily.

Project Goals

The goals for the rebuild were to:

  • Provide a more secure website
  • Ensure accessibility for their site visitors on all devices
  • Allow the MFCU team to easily update their content, especially the homepage promo slider.

System Design

Architecture & Sitemap

Like most credit unions and banks, MFCU needs to provide extensive information to their site visitors. The sitemap creation was crucial to the development of the pages and subpages. We divided the services between Banking and Loans. From there, we were able to design a complex yet intuitive site navigation.

Typography

We chose the ‘condensed’ version of the famous Roboto family. The Roboto font features a geometric structure, while also offering natural reading rhythm that is often not characteristic of other san serif fonts. This fit the clean, modern, yet friendly aesthetic that was desired for the website. This font is being used for headlines with its bold weight variations. It is also a well-suited font for the slider calls to action.

We retained the colors from the client’s previous branding effort, as the MFCU was highly satisfied with them.

Promo Slider

We empowered the MFCU team to easily update the homepage promo slider at their convenience. Working with the Divi theme and its template builder, we created a carousel of slides with a title, tagline and button for their sales and announcements. We designed the slide backgrounds for the first couple of months, and then the MFCU team took over the slider creation using design specifications we provided (e.g., text length, background image guidelines, etc.).
